Veterinary researchers solve bluetongue-virus mystery

The bluetongue virus that infects livestock manages to survive the winter by reproducing in the insect that transmits it, report veterinary scientists at the University of California, Davis. Disease caused by the virus costs U.S. cattle and sheep ranchers an estimated $125 million annually.
