Fire tax bills go out

Beginning with Alameda County and moving alphabetically to Yuba County, about 800,000 property owners in the State Responsibility Area are receiving bills for "fire prevention services." The so-called "fee," which a number of experts say is actually a tax, is being protested by property owners and tax-reform advocates.
