As Rim Fire burns, ranchers try to assess their losses

As ash settles in the fire-ravaged Stanislaus National Forest, Tuolumne County ranchers continue to assess losses and look for cattle that may have survived the fast-moving Rim Fire. In many cases, ranchers are riding through incinerated landscapes with still-smoldering trees, finding little is left to save or gather.
