Updated forecast indicates a smaller 2013 almond crop

As California farmers prepare to harvest 810,000 bearing acres of almonds this season, a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture indicates the overall crop could be 2 percent lower than last year's. In a report issued last week, the USDA National Agricutural Statistics Service estimated the crop at 1.85 billion pounds.
