Issue Date: March 2, 2011

Robert Blattler, left, Steve Godlin and Larry Peltzer unload their purchases during the Great Grocery Cart Race, a timed competition hosted by the Tulare County Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers. Three teams competed at Foods Co. in Tulare to fill their carts with a predetermined list of items. The YF&R team grabbed first place with a time of 51 minutes and 11 seconds, Airosa Dairy took second and Tulare County Farm Bureau came in third. Ultimately, though, it was FoodLink for Tulare County that was the big winner, accepting 771 pounds of food worth more than $750. The race capped off Food Check-Out Week, Feb. 20-26, an annual celebration of America's abundant and safe food supply.
