Heat, smoke mostly spare Sacramento Valley rice

Although individual fields suffered from burned flowers in the summer heat, and others could lose yield to slow late-season growth under weeks of smoke-filled skies, the California rice crop as a whole may have largely escaped significant damage from this year's unusual midseason conditions. That's the assessment of speakers at the California Rice Virtual Field Day.
