Emergency declaration will speed fuels reduction

Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency and ordered Cal Fire to move quickly on a list of fuels-reduction projects it compiled earlier this month. In the order, issued last week, the governor sought to clear the way by suspending environmental reviews and competitive-bidding requirements related to fuels reduction.
